The STELLAR Model, developed by the Central Electricity Authority, helps Indian states and discoms plan reliable power supply. It integrates generation, transmission, storage, and demand response, ensuring resource adequacy. User-friendly and free, it supports rule compliance and avoids power shortages, promoting efficient, future-ready electricity planning across India.

The Central Electricity Authority has launched the State of art totally Indigenously developed Resource adequacy model (STELLAR).
It is a special tool designed to help Indian states and electricity distribution companies (discoms) plan how to meet future electricity needs. It ensures there will always be enough power available when needed. This model follows guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power in June 2023.
It ensures that electricity generation, transmission, and storage are planned properly so the country can meet growing electricity demand without shortages or blackouts. It also helps states follow rules set by the government to maintain reliable power supply.
"Resource adequacy" means having enough resources—like power plants, transmission lines, and energy storage—to meet electricity demand at all times. The STELLAR Model helps states ensure they have enough resources to avoid power shortages |
It works by combining data about electricity generation, transmission, and storage. It analyzes this data to create plans that ensure enough power is available in the future. It also considers how people use electricity and adjusts plans to reduce demand during peak hours.
