The Coal Ministry officially launched the RECLAIM Framework to manage the closure of coal mines more responsibly.
It is a special plan designed to ensure that when a mine shuts, both the environment and the local people who depend on the mine for their jobs are taken care of properly.
It aims for a fair and smooth transition for these communities that have grown up around mining operations over many years.
The Coal Controller Organisation, under the Ministry of Coal, developed this framework. They partnered with the Heartfulness Institute to create it.
Structured Guide => It acts as a clear, step-by-step guide for involving communities in the entire process of mine closure and what happens afterward.
Practical Approach => It provides practical methods to make sure community participation becomes a standard part of the transition.
Actionable Tools => It comes with useful tools, templates, and proven methods that are specifically designed for India's conditions.
Inclusivity => It places a strong focus on including everyone, especially women (gender inclusivity) and vulnerable groups. It also works closely with Panchayati Raj Institutions (local self-government bodies) to make sure the transition is fair and relevant to local needs.
Long-term Well-being => The framework desires to create a smooth and strong transition for mining communities, building trust, restoring the environment, and ensuring the communities' long-term economic and social well-being.
