About National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC)

It is a government organization established in 2007, under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

It leads the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), which aims to create modern industrial cities across India. These cities, called Greenfield Industrial Smart Cities, are built from scratch (on undeveloped land) and designed to be global hubs for manufacturing, innovation, and investment.

The NICDC collaborates with state governments and private companies to plan, fund, and develop these projects.

The NICDC’s work is part of India’s broader goal to boost its manufacturing sector, achieve $2 trillion in exports by 2030, and create millions of jobs.

The first industrial corridor, the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) was started in 2007, and the program has since expanded to include 12 new industrial cities across 10 states, including Palakkad in Kerala.

Why Did NICDC Receive the Udyog Vikas Award?

This award celebrates NICDC’s efforts in transforming India’s industrial and logistics sectors. The event highlighted NICDC’s role in projects like the Palakkad Industrial Smart City, which is set to boost Kerala’s economy.

The award also recognized NICDC’s innovative use of technology through its subsidiary, NICDC Logistics Data Services Ltd. (NLDSL).

NLDSL’s Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP) has revolutionized India’s logistics by connecting government systems and private companies, making transport faster and more efficient.

Palakkad Industrial Smart City

It is a major project under the Kochi-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor, one of the six corridors in the NICDP.

It spans 1,710 acres across Pudussery Central, Pudussery West, and Kannambra in Palakkad district, Kerala.

The project was approved by the Union Cabinet in August 2024, has an estimated cost of ₹3,806 crore and is expected to attract ₹8,729 crore in investments while creating 51,000 jobs.
