The Mearim River is located in Maranhão state, northern Brazil. The river begins in southern Maranhão and flows north into the Baía de São Marcos estuary. It also receives the Pindaré and Grajaú rivers, which are considered tributaries of the Mearim. The lower Mearim is notable for its pororoca, or tidal bore.
