Context:

The Ministry of Coal launched C-CARES Version 2.0, to streamline Provident Fund and pension processes for coal workers.

What is C-CARES?  

C-CARES, which stands for Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation (CMPFO) Computerisation of Accounts and Records Electronic System, is a web portal for managing the social security funds of coal mine workers.

The newly launched Version 2.0 is an upgraded platform designed to be more efficient, transparent, and user-friendly.

The portal has been developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), a research and development organization under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.  

Key Features  

Unified Digital Platform => C-CARES 2.0 brings coal workers, their employers (coal companies), and the CMPFO onto a single, integrated online platform. This integration eliminates information silos and speeds up communication and processes.

Efficient and Transparent Processing => The system facilitates the online submission of claims and allows for real-time tracking of their status. This transparency empowers workers by giving them visibility into the entire process, from application to settlement.

Automated and Faster Settlements => The platform automates processes like ledger updates and enables direct benefit transfers (DBT) of provident fund and pension amounts directly into the bank accounts of the workers.  

Mobile Application for Enhanced Accessibility => Recognizing the need for mobile-first services, a dedicated mobile app has been launched. Through the app, CMPF members can:

• View their profiles and PF balances.
• Track the status of their claims.
• Raise grievances directly from their mobile devices.
• Utilize a chatbot assistant for quick navigation and to get answers to common queries.

About Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation (CMPFO)

The CMPFO is an autonomous organisation operating under the administrative control of the Ministry of Coal.

It was established in 1948 with the specific mandate to administer the provident fund and pension schemes for workers in the coal sector.

The organization plays a crucial role in the lives of a vast number of people. Currently, it renders services to about 3.3 lakh provident fund subscribers and 6.3 lakh pensioners.
