Context: The National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) has been tracking and reporting the activities of Raccoon Stealer malware.

Details

  • Recently a malicious campaign was launched "by an unknown threat actor using Raccoon malware" to target computer systems of the Central Board of Direct Taxes of the Income Tax Department, the Pay and accounts department of the Central Public Works Department, etc.
  • The National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO), a specialised intelligence organisation under the National Security Adviser, has been monitoring and reporting on the Raccoon Stealer malware's activities.

Raccoon Stealer

  • Raccoon Stealer is a malware program that steals sensitive data from infected computers. It is often sent by email.
  • It is a classic example of information-stealing malware, which is commonly used by hackers to obtain access to sensitive data stored in users' browsers and cryptocurrency wallets.
