Context: The National Service Scheme Awards for the year 2021-2022 were conferred by the President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

  • The NSS Awards were instituted in 1993-94 by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports on the occasion of the Silver Jubilee Year of the National Service Scheme.
  • These awards acknowledge exceptional contributions made by universities, colleges, councils, senior secondary institutions, NSS units, program officers, and NSS volunteers. The goal is to further promote NSS activities across the country.
  • Objectives of NSS Awards:

  • NSS Volunteers engage in various social activities, both regular and special camping activities. These activities encompass literacy and education, health, family welfare and nutrition, environmental conservation, social service programs, women empowerment initiatives, economic development activities, and rescue and relief efforts during calamities.
