The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) in partnership with UNICEF India launched the TALASH Initiative.
TALASH (Tribal Aptitude, Life Skills and Self-Esteem Hub) is a national- program to support the all-round development of students in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs).
It aims to improve academic learning, personal growth, emotional well-being, social skills, and readiness for future careers.
It is expected to benefit over 1,38,336 students who are currently enrolled in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) spread across 28 States and 8 Union Territories.
The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an independent organization operating under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, launched the TALASH initiative, with UNICEF India.
The collaboration combines government efforts with international expertise to achieve its goals.
Psychometric assessments are specialized tests or questionnaires that help evaluate a person's cognitive abilities, interests, personality traits, and aptitudes.
Inspiration => TALASH's psychometric assessments draw inspiration from NCERT’s ‘Tamanna’ initiative; designed for students to help them understand their interests, strengths, and abilities in relation to various career paths.
How it work in TALASH? => Based on the detailed results of the aptitude test, each student receives personalized "Career Cards." These cards serve as personalized guides that suggest various career options best suited to the student's specific skills, abilities, and interests.
Equips teachers with resources => Provides educators materials, practical tools, and essential information they need to effectively implement the program. Teachers to receive targeted training.
Effective mentorship => Empower teachers to effectively guide and support students in all aspects of their developmental journeys—their academic studies, their personal growth, and their future career exploration.
They are special schools established by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to provide high-quality education to tribal children from Class VI to XII.
They are residential schools, focused on the all-round development of tribal students living in remote and often disadvantaged areas.
The TALASH initiative directly integrates with it and benefits students within these schools.
