TALASH Initiative

The main goal of the TALASH (Tribal Aptitude, Life Skills and Self-Esteem Hub) initiative is to support the all-round development of students studying in Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs).

It aims to improve both the education and personal growth of tribal students across India.

Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs)

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs set up these schools across the country to offer a good education, including academic learning, sports, and cultural activities, to tribal students in remote areas. The government aims to establish an EMRS in every block with more than 50% ST population and at least 20,000 tribal persons.

The National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), an independent organization under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, launched the TALASH program in partnership with UNICEF India.

Key Features

Psychometric Assessments => Inspired by NCERT’s ‘Tamanna’ initiative, TALASH provides a common aptitude test. This test helps understand each student’s strengths and interests. Based on the results, students receive "Career Cards" that suggest the best career options suited to their skills and abilities.

Career Counselling => The platform guides students towards making informed career decisions, helping them match their aspirations with their aptitudes.

Life Skills & Self-Esteem Modules => TALASH includes special sections that teach students important life skills such as problem-solving, effective communication, and managing emotions. These modules build students' confidence and self-worth.

E-Learning for Teachers => A specialized online portal provides educators with resources and training, equips them with effective guidance and supports students in their academic and personal journeys.
