Context:

  • Indian Navy conducted Exercise Poorvi Lehar on the East Coast.

Details of Exercise Poorvi Lehar(  XPOL 2024) :

  • It is a coordinated exercise between the Indian Navy, Indian Army, Indian Aird Force, and Indian Coast Guard.
  • The exercise is aimed at validating procedures for assessing the Indian Navy’s preparedness for Maritime Security challenges in the region. It also aims to Demonstrate a high degree of interoperability among the services.
  • Participating Forces: Assets from Eastern Naval Command, Indian Air Force (IAF), Andaman & Nicobar Command, and Coast Guard participated.
  • Phases of Exercise:
    • XPOL is conducted in multiple phases, including the Tactical and Weapon Phase.
    • Combat training in realistic scenarios during the Tactical Phase.
    • Successful firings during the Weapon Phase showcased Navy's capability to hit targets accurately.
  • Maritime Domain Awareness:
    • Operation of aircraft from diverse locations maintained near-continuous Maritime Domain Awareness over the Area of operations.

Significance:

  • The successful conclusion of XPOL 2024 reaffirmed the Indian Navy’s commitment to meeting growing security challenges in the maritime domain. The exercise provided valuable lessons to participating forces.
