Context: Researchers from Kerala have identified two new species of fungi from the genus Ganoderma that are associated with coconut stem rot disease.

Two new species are:

• Ganoderma keralense and G. pseudoapplanatum

Significance of this discovery:

• Early identification of fungal infection.
• Prevent disease occurrence and in developing disease resistant plants
