• The Nature Experience Initiative (Animal Census) was carried out at Katepurna Sanctuary.
• Nature enthusiasts and NGOs responded positively to the initiative, and they have spotted a total of 309 wildlife and birds.

About the sanctuary

Location

• It is located in Akola District of Maharashtra.

Geography

• This Sanctuary area is the catchment of Katepurna Reservoir.
• The sanctuary derives its name from the Katepurna River.

Vegetation

• The land vegetation at Katepurna Sanctuary is southern tropical dry deciduous forest.

Flora

• There are over 115 species of plants at this sanctuary such as Bahada, Dhawada, Moha, Tendu, Khair, Salai, Aola, Teude, etc.

Fauna

• Katepurna Wildlife Sanctuary is renowned for the four-horned antelope and barking deer.
• Other animals include black buck, leopard, wolf, wild boar, hyena, hare, nilgai, jungle cat and monkey.
