EURASIAN OTTER

The Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra), locally known as Vuder in Kashmir, is a semiaquatic carnivorous mammal found across the Palearctic region and parts of India. It prefers cold, clean freshwater habitats and is threatened by water pollution and poaching, leading to its classification as Near Threatened by the IUCN and its listing under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act and Appendix I of CITES.
