Context

This resolve to change name was taken in a special meeting which was presided over by Shri Rajnath Singh.
Rajnath Singh is defence minister of India and also the vice president of this Library Society.

Other Details

In 2016 PM Narendra modi has initiated the idea to change name.
In the same year approval to construct this museum was given by Executive Council of the society in its 162^nd
New name of the institution reflects the deep commitment of country to democracy and honours the works and initiatives of Each PM.
In April 2022 the museum, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, was opened for public.

Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society

This museum is dedicated to the memory of all the Prime Ministers of India.
It was originally Nehru Museum building which was renovated and updated with various technological display.
Along with Our first prime minister’s life journey and contributions, it also tells us the challenges faced by each PM and how they steered us on the path of progress.
It is situated in Teen Murti Premises, New Delhi.
By highlighting the contributions and activities of each PM of India to nation building, this museum shows the democratic traditions of independent India.

History of Nehru Memorial Museum and Library

Established in the memory of Jawahar lal Nehru, this institute is situated to the south of Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi.
This autonomous institution under the Ministry of Culture was built in 1929-30.
Robert Tor Russel is credited for the design of this building
Before independence it was the official residence of the Commander-in-Chief of India.
It consists of
- A library on modern India
- Memorial Museum,
- A Centre for Contemporary Studies and
- The Nehru Planetarium
The archives and material here can be used for research and academic purposes.
