- India’s NSA Ajit Doval, along with security chiefs of Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, during the Regional Security Dialogue on Afghanistan adopted the Delhi Declaration and reiterated strong support for a peaceful, secure and stable Afghanistan
Delhi declaration
- It underlined the need for forming an open and truly inclusive government in Kabul that represents the will and representation of all sections of Afghanistan.
- It emphasise the respect for sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and non-interference in its internal affairs.
- It also stressed that Afghanistan's territory should not be used for sheltering, training, planning or financing any terrorist acts.
- Recalling the relevant UN Resolutions on Afghanistan, the United Nations has a central role to play in Afghanistan and that its continued presence in the country must be preserved.
- Humanitarian assistance should be provided in an unimpeded, direct and assured manner to Afghanistan.
Taliban reaction:
- Taliban have welcomed the ‘Delhi Declaration’ on Afghanistan after India hosted seven countries from its neighbourhood to discuss the situation in the geo-strategically significant country.
- Unlike Pakistan and China, the Taliban have shown more openness to India’s efforts towards establishing normalcy in Afghanistan.
