Origin of Balkampet Yellamma Temple

  • Its history goes back to the 15th century, when a goddess-carved rock was found 10 feet below ground during a well-digging project.
  • People saw the unmoving statue as a divine sign, leading to the construction of the temple.
  • The temple has been fixed up many times over the centuries. The current building was completed in 1919.
  • Bonalu Jathara and Yellamma Kalyanotsavam are two of the most important festivals held at the temple.

Architecture of the Balkampet Yellamma Temple

  • This is one of the oldest temples in Hyderabad city. It was built in the Dravidian style.
  • An idol was found 10 feet below the surface. It was built to look like a huge temple.
  • Mahagopuram is the name for the temple's big tower.  The wall has a lot of writing and carvings on it.
  • Goddess Sri Pochamma, Goddess Rajarajeshwari, Goddess Nagadevta, and Lord Ganesha are the other shrines inside the complexes.
