Context: India’s third lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, is at an advanced stage of realisation and the mission is being planned for launch in 2022.

Details:

• The propulsion module has been realised and final testing is in progress. The lander structure is released and propulsion integration is in progress.
• The lander for Chandrayaan-3 will have only four throttle-able engines unlike Vikram on Chandrayaan-2 which had five 800 Newtons engines with a fifth one being centrally mounted and with fixed thrust.
• Additionally the Chandrayaan-3 lander will also be equipped with a Laser Doppler Velocimeter (LDV).
