The Union Government has introduced a significant legislative package in a special session of Parliament to fast-track the implementation of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women's Reservation Act). The new bills aim to ensure that one-third of seats in the Lok Sabha and State Assemblies are reserved for women starting from the 2029 General Elections by decoupling the reservation from the requirement of a fresh Census.
