UCC AS CONSTITUTIONAL AMBITION: SUPREME COURT ON SHARIAT INHERITANCE LAWS

The Supreme Court of India has characterized the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) as a constitutional ambition rather than a religious issue. While hearing a petition challenging the gender-discriminatory nature of inheritance under the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat) Application Act, 1937, the court emphasized that civil laws should ideally be uniform across all faiths to ensure equality.
