UPSC Cut-off Marks 2019 Released-Less than 50% is required to get the final selection

Recently UPSC released cut-off for prelims, Mains as well as final cut-off for UPSC Civil Services Examination 2019.

You just needed 49% marks to clear first stage and 47.45% marks to get final selection.Note:

  • Cut-off is calculated based on only marks of GS-I paper of the prelims examination.
  • GS-II or CSAT paper is of qualifying nature, as one has to score minimum 33% marks to qualify. Person scoring below 33% marks will be disqualified from the examination irrespective of marks in GS-I.

Trend Analysis

  • Prelims cut-off for General, OBC, SC and ST is showing a decline trend from 2017 and the same trend is observed in 2019.

Analysis of prelims 2019 cut-off

  • A General category candidate was required to score just 49% marks to clear the prelims 2019 cut-off.
  • An OBC category candidate was required to score just 47.67% marks to clear the prelims 2019 cut-off.
  • A SC category candidate was required to score just 41% marks to clear the prelims 2019 cut-off.
  • A ST category candidate was required to score just 38.67% marks to clear the prelims 2019 cut-off.
  • There is marginal difference between cut-off of OBC and General category but there is huge difference (8 marks) between cut-off of General and EWS category and between general and SC/ST (around 14 marks difference).

Analysis

  • Mains 2019 cut-off for all categories except PwBD-2 and PwBD-5 decreased as comparison to Mains 2018 cut-off.
  • For general category cut-off marks dipped by 23 marks and for OBC, SC and ST by 14, 13 and 20 marks respectively.
  • One just needed 91% marks to clear the cut-off in general category and 41%, 40.34%, 39.94%, 39.77% for OBC, SC, ST and EWS category respectively.
  • Interesting point to be noted is the cut-off of EWS category, which is less than even ST category.

Analysis

  • Final CSE 2019 cut-off decreased for all categories in comparison to final CSE 2018 cut-off.
  • For general category final cut-off marks dipped by 21 marks and for OBC, SC and ST it got dipped by 13, 14 and 19 marks respectively.
  • One just needed 45% marks to get into the list in general category and 45.67%, 44.34%, 42.58%, 44.88% for OBC, SC, ST and EWS category respectively.
  • The OBC cut-off was 36 marks less than the general category cut-off and the SC and ST category cut-off was less by 63 and 68 marks respectively as compared to the general category cut off.

Conclusion

  • One just needed 45% marks to get into the list of the selected candidates from open category.
  • However, scoring even this much marks is not easy. One is required to have proper strategy and practice to score good marks in UPSC to get selected.
