RURAL EMPLOYMENT, LIVELIHOODS & POVERTY ALLEVIATION

VB–G RAM G 2025 (Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar & Ajeevika Mission – Gramin)

VB–G RAM G 2025 was in the news as it represents the biggest overhaul of rural employment policy since MNREGA (2005). It legally guarantees 125 days of wage employment per rural household, shifting the focus from short-term wage relief to infrastructure-led, asset-creating employment. The scheme prioritises water security, rural infrastructure, livelihoods, and climate resilience, uses Viksit Gram Panchayat Plans, GIS mapping, and a National Rural Infrastructure Stack, and introduces normative funding while retaining unemployment allowance.

AGRICULTURE, FARMER INCOME & FOOD SECURITY

PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY)

PMDDKY was launched in 2025 with a 24,000 crore outlay to transform 100 low-productivity districts through convergence of 36 schemes across 11 ministries. It focuses on irrigation, diversification, storage, credit, and district-level planning via District Dhan-Dhaanya Samitis, making it a successor to the Aspirational Districts approach for agriculture.

Mission Aatmanirbharta in Pulses

This mission was highlighted for targeting self-sufficiency in pulses by 2030–31, with free seed kits, MSP-linked procurement through NAFED and NCCF, and expansion of Tur, Urad, and Masoor cultivation to reduce import dependence.

PM-AASHA (Extended till 2025–26)

PM-AASHA was extended to ensure remunerative prices for pulses and oilseeds, with procurement limits raised to 25% of national production and 100% procurement assurance for select pulses.

PMFBY (Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana)

PMFBY remained in news for completing 9 years, disbursing 1.75 lakh crore in claims, and for reforms like YES-TECH remote sensing, DigiClaim, and escrow-based premium systems to ensure timely payouts. 

WATER, IRRIGATION & ENVIRONMENT

Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)

JJM was in focus for achieving 80% rural tap water coverage by August 2025 and shifting emphasis from infrastructure creation to daily functionality, water quality, and sustainability, with convergence under PM GatiShakti.

M-CADWM (Modernisation of Command Area Development & Water Management)

M-CADWM was approved in 2025 with 1,600 crore to modernise canal-to-farm irrigation using pressurised pipelines, SCADA, and IoT, and to promote water-use efficiency and farmer-managed irrigation systems.

HEALTH, NUTRITION & SOCIAL SECURITY

Ayushman Bharat – PMJAY

PMJAY was in the news as the world’s largest health insurance scheme, covering 12+ crore families, issuing 42+ crore cards, and saving 1.52 lakh crore in out-of-pocket expenditure.

Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana (AVVY)

AVVY gained attention for extending 5 lakh cashless healthcare to all senior citizens aged 70+, irrespective of income or insurance status, with zero waiting period.

Mission Poshan 2.0 & PMMVY

These schemes were highlighted for strengthening maternal and child nutrition, using Poshan Tracker, Facial Recognition Systems, and expanded coverage in PVTG areas.

PMSMA (Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan)

PMSMA completed 9 years, contributing to a sharp decline in Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) and strengthening high-risk pregnancy tracking through E-PMSMA.

SKILLING, EDUCATION & YOUTH

PM SETU Scheme

PM SETU was launched with 60,000 crore to modernise 1,000 ITIs using a hub-and-spoke model, focus on AI, robotics, green energy, and create a future-ready workforce aligned with Viksit Bharat 2047.

NAVYA Initiative

NAVYA was launched to provide vocational training, life skills, and financial literacy to adolescent girls (16–18 years) in aspirational and tribal districts, addressing gender gaps in skilling.

Prime Minister’s Internship Scheme

The scheme was in news for a rise in female participation (41%), expanded company participation, and debates over stipend adequacy and post-internship outcomes.

INDUSTRY, MSMEs & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Make in India (11 Years)

Make in India completed 11 years, with focus on manufacturing expansion, PLI schemes, defence indigenisation, and export growth, while debates continued on low manufacturing share in GDP.

Stand-Up India

Stand-Up India remained in news for crossing 60,000 crore in loans, empowering SC/ST and women entrepreneurs, and deepening inclusive entrepreneurship.

PM MUDRA Yojana (10 Years)

PMMY completed 10 years, sanctioning 32.6 lakh crore in collateral-free loans, with 68% women beneficiaries, making it a cornerstone of micro-entrepreneurship.

ADEETIE Scheme

ADEETIE was launched with 1,000 crore to help MSMEs adopt energy-efficient technologies, reduce costs, and support India’s low-carbon transition.

DIGITAL GOVERNANCE & TECHNOLOGY

BharatNet

BharatNet was in the news as Punjab became the first state to fully implement the amended BharatNet programme, strengthening rural broadband connectivity.

SabhaSaar Initiative

SabhaSaar gained attention as an AI-based voice-to-text tool for automatic Gram Sabha meeting minutes, supporting Digital Panchayati Raj and multilingual governance.

UIDAI’s SITAA Scheme

SITAA was launched to promote innovation, AI, and security in Aadhaar systems, partnering with startups and academia for next-generation digital identity solutions.

WOMEN, SC/ST & INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT

Womaniya Initiative

Womaniya was highlighted for strengthening women-led enterprises on GeM, supporting SDG-5, and operationalising 3% procurement reservation for women entrepreneurs.

NSSH (SC/ST Hub) Scheme

NSSH was in news for intensifying support to SC/ST MSMEs, improving access to credit, skills, and 4% mandatory government procurement 

ENERGY, CLIMATE & TRANSPORT

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

PM Surya Ghar crossed 10 lakh rooftop solar installations, becoming the world’s largest residential solar scheme, with major climate and employment benefits.

PM E-DRIVE

PM E-DRIVE was extended till 2028 but rationalised subsidies for e-2W and e-3W, signalling policy shift toward market maturity and focus on buses, trucks, and charging infra.

UDAN Scheme

UDAN completed 9 years, connecting 93 underserved airports, expanding heliports and seaplane routes, and supporting regional connectivity.

Gyan Bharatam

Gyan Bharatam was launched in Budget 2025 to digitise over one crore manuscripts, create a National Digital Repository, and preserve India’s civilisational knowledge.

FINANCE, PENSIONS & SOCIAL SECURITY

Atal Pension Yojana (APY)

APY crossed 8.34 crore enrolments, with 48% women subscribers, reflecting deepening pension coverage among informal workers.

Unified Pension Scheme (UPS)

UPS was notified in 2025 as a hybrid pension system, combining assured pension benefits with NPS-style contributions, allowing a one-time switch from NPS.
