Revised UPSC Calendar

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the revised annual calendar for 2024, providing a roadmap for aspirants preparing for various competitive exams. The calendar includes the dates for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS) Prelims, Mains, and Interview.

Dates and Stages of UPSC CSE 2024:

The UPSC CSE 2024 will be conducted in three stages: Preliminary, Mains, and Interview.

The revised calendar for 2024 includes the following  dates and stages:

  • Date of Notification: The UPSC CSE 2024 notification was released on February 14, 2024.
  • Beginning of Registration: The registration process for UPSC CSE 2024 began on February 14, 2024.
  • End of Registration: The last date for registration was March 5, 2024.
  • Release of Admit Card: The admit card for the preliminary exam will be released in May 2024.
  • Date of Preliminary Examination: The preliminary exam is scheduled for June 16, 2024.
  • Results of Preliminary Exam: The results of the preliminary exam will be declared in June/July 2024.
  • Dates of Mains Examination: The mains examination will commence on September 20, 2024.

Other than CSE and IFoS

  • Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination (II): The CDS exam is scheduled for SEPTEMBER 1, 2024. The date of notification is May 15, 2024, and the last date for receipt of applications is June 4, 2024.
  • Indian Forest Services (IFS): The IFS exam is scheduled for June 16, 2024. The date of notification is February 14, 2024, and the last date for receipt of applications is March 5, 2024.
  • Central Armed Police Force Assistant Commandant (CAPF- AC): The CAPF exam is scheduled for August 4, 2024. The date of notification is April 24, 2024, and the last date for receipt of applications is May 14, 2024.
  • National Defence Academy (NDA) Examination (II): The NDA exam is scheduled for SEPTEMBER 1, 2024. The date of notification is May 15, 2024, and the last date for receipt of applications is June 4, 2024.
  • Combined Geo Scientist (MAINS): The Combined Geo Scientist Mais examination is scheduled for June 22, 2024. Prelims held on February 18, 2024.
  • Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service (IES/ISS): The IES/ISS exam is scheduled for June 21, 2024. The date of notification is April 10, 2024, and the last date for receipt of applications is April 30, 2024.
  • Combined Medical Services Examination (CMS): The CMS Examination is scheduled for July 14, 2024. The date of notification is April 10, 2024, and the last date for receipt of applications is April 30, 2024.
  • Engineering Services (EC) Mains: The CMS Examination is scheduled for June 23, 2024. Prelims held on 18th February 2024.

Details of other exams:

CDS:

  • The Combined Defence Services (CDS) exam is conducted twice a year by the UPSC. The exam is conducted for recruitment to various posts in the Indian Military Academy, Indian Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Officers' Training Academy. The exam consists of three papers: English, General Knowledge, and Elementary Mathematics.

IFS:

  • The Indian Forest Service (IFS) exam is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to various posts in the Indian Forest Service. The exam consists of two stages: Preliminary and Mains. The Preliminary exam is objective-type, and the Mains exam is subjective (written).

CAPF:

  • The Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) exam is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to various posts in the Central Reserve Police Force, Border Security Force, Central Industrial Security Force, and Indo-Tibetan Border Police. The exam consists of two stages: Preliminary and Mains. The Preliminary exam is objective-type, and the Mains exam is subjective (written).

NDA:

  • The National Defence Academy (NDA) exam is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to various posts in the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The exam consists of two stages: Written and Interview. The written exam is objective-type, and the interview is conducted by the Services Selection Board (SSB).

Combined Geo Scientist:

  • The Combined Geo Scientist exam is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to various posts in the Geological Survey of India and the Central Ground Water Board. The exam consists of two stages: Preliminary and Mains. The Preliminary exam is objective-type, and the Mains exam is subjective (written).

IES/ISS:

  • The Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service (IES/ISS) exam is conducted by the UPSC for recruitment to various posts in the Indian Economic Service and the Indian Statistical Service. The exam consists of two stages: Preliminary and Mains. The Preliminary exam is objective-type, and the Mains exam is subjective (written).

The Combined Medical Services Examination (CMS)

  • It is a competitive exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment to various medical and healthcare services in the country. The CMS exam is conducted annually and is open to medical graduates who meet the eligibility criteria

The Engineering Services Examination (ESE)

  • It is a prestigious and challenging examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit engineers in various domains such as Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunications for technical managerial posts. The ESE exam is conducted annually and consists of a two-stage written examination (Prelims & Mains) followed by an interview.

UPSC CSE 2024: Preliminary Examination:

The preliminary examination for UPSC CSE 2024 is scheduled for June 16, 2024.

The exam consists of two objective-type papers: General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II (CSAT).

The General Studies Paper I has subjects like Current Affairs, History, Geography, Polity, Economics, Science and Technology, and Environment.

The General Studies Paper II (CSAT) has subjects like Mathematics, Reasoning, Reading Comprehension, Mental Ability, Decision Making and Problem Solving.

UPSC CSE 2024: Mains Examination:

The mains examination for UPSC CSE 2024 is scheduled to start on September 20, 2024. The main exam is subjective (written) and has nine papers.

Out of these nine papers, marks in the seven papers are used for calculating final ranks. The nine papers for the main exam include Essay Paper, General Studies-Paper-I General Studies-I, Paper-III General Studies-II, Paper-IV General Studies-III, Paper-V General Studies-IV, Paper-A Indian Language, Paper-B English, Paper-VI Optional Subject-Paper-1, and Paper-VII Optional Subject-Paper-2.

UPSC CSE 2024: Interview:

The interview stage for UPSC CSE 2024 will be conducted after the mains examination. The interview is designed to assess the candidate's personality, leadership qualities, and overall suitability for a career in the civil services.
