  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed its Rafale fighters, C-17 Globemaster and IL-78 tankers  jets to Egypt for the Ex-HOPEX exercise
  • This weeklong exercise marks the fourth joint endeavor between the IAF and the Egyptian Air Force (EAF)



Introduction: It is the joint exercise of IAF (Indian Air Force) and EAF (Egyptian Air Force).

Key Participants and Aircraft

  • Rafale Fighter Jets: Deployed by the IAF for advanced combat and reconnaissance missions.
  • C-17 Globemaster: Known for its strategic airlift capabilities, supports logistics and troop movements.

Objectives of Ex-HOPEX

  • 75th Anniversary: In 2022, India and Egypt celebrated 75 years of diplomatic relations, underscoring their enduring partnership.

About Rafale Jets:


  • The Rafale deal between India and France was finalized in 2016,
  • Under this deal,India acquired 36 Rafale fighter jets from Dassault Aviation of France.
  • This agreement was seen as crucial for India's defense modernization efforts.
  • It aimed to bolster its air combat capabilities.


  • The state-of-the-art 4.5 Generation Rafale jet can reach almost double the speed of sound with a top speed of 1.8 Mach.
  • It has multi-role capabilities, including electronic warfare, air defence, ground support and in-depth strikes
